Five Ways To Make Sure Your Moving Company Wants To Work For You Again

Posted on: 29 August 2018

Hiring movers can make the task of moving a whole lot easier. Good, reputable movers will do their best to keep your items safe and sound with very little input from you. However, there are some things you can do to make their jobs easier and make sure they'll want to work for you again.

1. Be on time.

If you arrange to meet the movers at your old house at a certain time, make sure you are on time. Movers have a schedule to stick to. If they get started 15 or 20 minutes late, they will be behind all day—or they will have to scramble to catch up. Being on time benefits you too, since some moving companies charge by the hour and will charge you for the time they spend waiting for you to arrive and open the door.

2. Sort out the items the movers cannot move.

Before they show up to your home, your movers should give you a list of items they cannot or will not move. This will probably include chemical cleaners, valuable jewelry, and money. If you take the time to sort through your stuff and remove these items beforehand, your movers will appreciate it.

3. Have cold drinks on hand.

Movers should supply their own food and drinks if they need them while on the job, but it's still a nice gesture to have some extra cold drinks on hand. Lemonade, cold soda, and even bottled water will be appreciated, especially when it is scorching hot outside. If it's the middle of winter, you may want to brew a pot of coffee or tea for the movers instead.

4. Be available to answer questions.

You don't have to stare at the movers and watch their every move as they work. You can do something else like get the house cleaned up. But do make sure you're nearby in case the movers have any questions. The sooner they get a response from you, the faster they can work.

5. Tip fairly.

You do not have to leave hundreds of dollars in tip money for movers, but a fair tip will be greatly appreciated. If you have just one or two people working for you, tipping about 10% of the total bill is advised. If there are numerous movers, giving each $5 or $10 is plenty.

Follow the tips above, and you'll have no trouble re-hiring the same moving company when you move again!
